Artist’s Statement: Always doodling pictures as a child Patricia Maclean’s mother thought she might enjoy formal instruction so she enrolled her in an art class when she was eight. When the art teacher was making the rounds of the students she stopped at Patricia’s picture and said “Hey that’s really good!” Patricia was hooked on art after that. Having really enjoyed art throughout grade school and high school Patricia Maclean decided to pursue her art interest as a possible career. She studied at the University of Manitoba and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honors) degree with a major in drawing and studied under Jack Butler in her final year. Upon graduating from the University of Manitoba she studied for an Advertising Art Diploma at Red River Community College. She deepened her interest in Nature Art when she studied with Ken Forbister at the Museum of Man and Nature in Winnipeg. With her current work she is focusing on local subject matter such as scenery and animals around her Florida home and because she is the mother of three small children, pictures of the kids as they grow. Her artwork is representational and her medium of choice is acrylic paint. Acrylics offer a versatility with their quick drying time to apply paint in either thin washes or more opaquely. Patricia Maclean is most proud of winning first place in the “Fisheries Enhancement Stamp Competition” in Manitoba. Upon moving to Florida in 1999 she joined the North Port Art Center and has artwork for sale in the Gift Gallery. Her most recent artistic contribution was the painting of the bus benches in Sarasota, FL
