Capturing the enduring appeal of the ocean’s inhabitants, this fossilized, light grey Mako shark tooth with a honey-beige root has been wire-wrapped in sterling silver.  The tooth was retrieved from Shark Tooth Hill in Bakersfield, California.  The pendant is hung from a shoestring cord and is flanked by two Indian Beads from Peace River.

This skillfully-thrown porcelain vase owes its surface to the addition of horsehair.  After firing, the cream-toned vase is burnished, horsehair is added, and a second firing reduces the black horsehair to a pattern of fine, feathery lines.  Up to ten coats of wax may now be applied, each one followed by burnishing, giving the piece its soft glow.

You will have to look twice to recognize the material used in fashioning this chic bag.  Rows of silver metal pop-top loops cover the surface of a zippered black knitted bag with matching strap.  Added elements of cascading black yarn and silver beads form the centerpiece.  The iridescent violet lining includes a flower-print pocket.  This is recycling with glitz and glamour.
