Spring Art Show

Catherine Beausoleil won First Place with her large Conserve Our Canopy silk painting. Cathy entered two other silk paintings that need to be seen up close to really appreciate the fine detailed work that has gone into her creations.

Professional entertainer and artist Kitt Moran won Second Place for her Honor oil painting during the Spring Art Show reception March 31.

Thirteen year old Anastasia Kapitonava won Third Place for her Lupine Springacrylic painting. Anastasia has been taking lessons from North Port Art Center Youth Director Clare Harvey. Maitte Van Arsdel, professional watercolor artist from Sarasota, was the judge for the North Port Art Center "Spring Art Show."

Award Winning artist Renee Kleinsorge stood near her Pastels Dusk which won the People's Choice Award and, top right, Field of Dreams, which won Best of Show.

Artist Carol Dawkins was pleased to receive an Honorable Mention award for her Beach Umbrella, which was her first attempt at creating a collage.

Sharon Dumont, who stands between her two beautiful photo entries (top left) Here's looking at you and Paradise Sunshine (top right), which won an Honorable Mention. Sharon is also known for her pottery creations at the North Port Art Center and Warm Mineral Springs gift shops.

Portrait artist and graphic designer Sheryl Unwin won an Honorable Mention award for her scratchboard Watching.

Linda Moreau was surrounded by her photography entries Tombstones and The
Peaks District-England and to also have won $50 toward an art class of her choice, as a raffle prize.

North Port High School Intern on the North Port Art Center Board Courtney Opsatnick entertained by singing and playing her guitar during the "Spring Art Show" reception. Her father Jeff Opsatnick happened to be the lucky raffle winner of a beautiful Bonsai tree.

Ukrainian-American Society of Southwest Florida Exhibit

Manequin dressed in bead encrusted embroidery, the colors of the Bukobyna region of the Ukraine. U-ACSWF President Daria Tomashosky, Chair of art display Klara Szpiczka, and committee member Rita Poslusznyj greeted at the art reception February 25, 2012.

Two of the several docents that will be on hand to explain daily to viewers
about the various art techniques used in creating Ukrainian art: Gerdany
Lisnyczyj will share about jewelry making on Monday and Irene Copie will
demonstrate Pysanky (writing on eggs).

Iwanna Martynetz stands near framed samples of her dancing and working

needlepoint figures that on display along with several other samples of her fine work.

Exhibit committee member Orysia Zinycz, who is wearing a Kiptar (beaded and
embroidered vest) with colors from the Hutsul (Mountain people of Ukraine)
region, holds a Rushnyka ritual towel, which was made by her aunt to be used
when Orysia's daughter marries.

President of the St. Andrews Ukrainian Religious & Cultural Center, Chair of
the U-ACSWF Scholarship committee and official photographer Victor Lisnyczyj
snapped a photo of Vladymier Szpiczka playing the accordion during the art
reception, as Sun newspaper columnist Atanas Kobryn listened.

Mary Holl, Doris Horbachevsky, Anna Fridrich, Tamara Gelembyn, North Port
City Commissioner Linda Yates and Nancy Wosny visit as they surround the
abundant, delicious Ukrainian food choices.

Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society "Transparent Show"

President of the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society artist Roger Parent won
1st Place for his "expressive, loose brushwork on Las Monjas, San Miguel de
Allende, the figures walking down the street and the energetic marks make
the scene come alive, especially since they contrast with the overall
stationary architecture", stated Juror Coke.

Pat Robertson won Second Place for her Orchid Chorus. Juror Coke's comments:"Based on the pure graphic quality of the work and the expertise of technique which normally flattens a painting; there is depth through the changes of overlapping values and textures, and a strong composition that leads the viewer in and out of the painting."

Professional artist and instructor Nancy Colby stands near her Intensity, which received third place. Juror professional artist Joanna Coke stated, "The hyper-realism quality of the cat goes beyond photographic realism; she could feel the intensity in the cat's stare and the twitching of its whiskers."

Artist Frances Smith won an Honorable Mention for her Rhino and Friend.

Instructor/artist Don Melander won a Merit Award for his Fog on the River
watercolor painting accepted into the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society
"Transparent Show" on display at North Port Art Center.
